Size Guide
Measuring for any slip lead design (leather, braid, chain etc.)
The best way to determine the right length is to use a length of string or soft rope as a guide. Tie a small loose loop in one end of the string, approx. 1cm (3/8") diameter. Thread the other end of the string through the loop, to make a lasso or noose. Drape the lasso over your dog's head and shoulders in the manner which you prefer to show the dog. Some people prefer it very loose around the shoulders, others prefer the lead slightly tighter. Stand in your usual position for showing your dog and hold the string at the point where you want the handle to be. Don't worry about making a loop for the handle, we will do that for you. Please note the length you order will be including the handle. Consider that you may want to wrap some lead around your hand. When you're happy that you have the best length to suit you and your dog, cut or mark the string at the point you want the handle. Now un-tie the lasso knot and simply measure the overall length of the string from end to end. Write this down so you don't forget.

With the styles including swivels they are usually positioned 40/50cm from the tip of the handle. With the combination leather and chain we will choose the correct length chain for your breed (the size you order includes the chain). If you have any specific preferences on where the swivel goes or how long the chain should be, just contact us and we can do this at no extra cost.

Generally people choose a 1m loop lead, because getting the size perfect is not as crucial as it is for other styles. If you are shorter or taller, choose a length smaller or larger!

For the collar take a firm measurement around the narrowest part of the neck, this is usually up around behind the ears. This will be the size we make the leather part of the collar. The chain will allow it to open up to go over the head. For a puppy, depending on your dogs size and growth potential, add anything from 1 to 4 centimetres onto this size to allow for growing room. We can alter collars for a small charge of £8.00 if they outgrow it.

Measuring for a leather slip collar
This size needs to be large enough to slip over your dogs head. Generally you can measure your dogs neck, add 10cm and this will go over the head. It is a good idea to check this with a piece of string. You don’t want it to be so tight you have to force it over the head, but you also don’t need it to be overly large. Now simply measure the overall length of the string from end to end. Write this down so you don't forget.

Measuring for a leather American show collar
Depending on how you intend to use this collar, will determine the size you need. Usually just measure around where you want to it to fall across the top of the shoulders when it is loose. The idea is that you can then just adjust the trigger hook so it acts as a slip collar when you run the dog.
